Our (in the Coast Guard) 44 foot motor life boats were built out of Cor-ten steel. One of the contractor doing some repairs didn't use the rod specified in the contract and the boat started springing leaks a few months after the job was finished.
Core Ten - A242 and A588 - steels are weathering steels commonly used for outdoor structures. Welding A588 Steels We use cookies to help our website work more effectively and efficiently, and to align our services and advertisements to your needs.
The two most common steel welding codes, American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and D1.5, which respectively govern structural and bridge welding, directly address the use of weathering steels and provide welding methods appropriate to different service environments for these materials.
Sep 20, 2005· COR-TEN is commonly used for outdoor structures. These very high tensile strength steels have a higher resistance to atmospheric corrosion than typical mild steels, and in spite of its rusted appearance it is actually more resistant to damaging corrosion than …
COR-TEN can be welded both manually and mechanically, we can supply corten steel, such as : corten A steel , Corten B steel ,S235J2W steel and so on, any need in corten steel, please contact us!
Welding wire for Corten, Patinax. Weather resistant steel usually contains 0,5% copper that creates a layer on the surface that prevents further oxidation witch makes it weather resistant. Corten welding wire also contains this addition of copper to offer the same properties for the weld seam and increases also slightly the mechanical values.
COR-TEN can be welded both manually and mechanically, provided the general rules of welding practices are observed. A prerequisite for obtaining identical mechanical properties in the weld and in the base material is the application of suitable welding consumables and the …
Rail welding; Weathering; Stainless Steels. 309L and 309Mo types for dissimilar welding; Controlled ferrite for LNG and nil ferrite; Duplex and superduplex for the offshore industry ; Martensitic and ferritic ; Standard austenitic stainless steel; Superaustenitic for oil and gas; High Temperature Alloys. 16.8.2 types for elevated temperature
Cor-ten is a high strength, low alloy, weldable structural steel possessing excellent weathering resistance. It may be used to advantage in painted or unpainted condition. The steel owes its weathering resistance to the formation of a protective oxide coating which seals the surface against further corrosion.

Cor-Ten steel is a special type that contains copper. It is the copper that gives it the special colour seen with weathered material. You must weld Cor-Ten with Cor-Ten rods or you will create a galvanic couple that will rapidly corrode the container.
In the welding I have done with cor-ten, it all has done very well. I have actually welded some cor-ten just recently that was used for boiler breeching. In this, the 6010 and 7018 rods were used with a DC welder.
Nov 21, 2007· I am welding some structural supports of A36 steel inside a Corten shipping container to make a mobile lab, there will be alot of vertical ribs with ceiling braces, a v-track with a hoist running the entire length and width, some plate welded to create spaces for AC units, doors and ventilation pipes.
Commonly known as COR-TEN or Corten Steel. The name Corten is a trademark name held by United States Steel Corporation for their grade of A 242 weathering Steel. This name is commonly used in Australia also to refer to Weathering Steels and many forms of weathering steels are imported under the name Corten while not being sourced from the US.
Jan 06, 2015· Here where I am in California cor-ten is a waste of money. It is dry enough that mild steel will not rust away and will likely last as long as cor-ten. There are architects that specify the stuff for projects I work on so I am familiar with it.

The use of COR-TEN Bwas seen as a cost-cutting move in comparison with the contemporary railcar standard of stainless steel. A subsequent order in 1979 was built to similar specs, including COR-TEN B bodies, by Bombardier. The cars were painted, a standard practice for COR-TEN B railcars.
ER308L Stainless Steel filler rod is suitable for general stainless steel welding applications of all type 304, 304L, 308, 308L, 312 and 347 materials. Cut lengths are 36" long. ER308L Stainless Steel TIG Filler Rods (10 Lb.

Cor-Ten is a high-strength low alloy steel, but if it's something that doesn't have to retain its strength properties like a storage container, you can probably just weld it with 7018. Cor-Ten is a product of United States Steel, you might be able to email them at COR-TEN@uss and get some recommendations.
ASTM A847 is a cold-formed high strength-low alloy steel that is welded and shaped into square and rectangular sizes. It is cold formed and welded to insure chemical consistency throughout the entire tube surface. No outside metal is added during the welding process.
Sep 23, 2004· HI Knartist..ask your welding supplier to check out Bohler Fox NiCuCr the rods contain: C0.05 Si 0.4 Mn 0.7 Cr 0.5 Cu 0.45 Ni 0.45 % I have just completed 4 medium sized sculptures (approx 750kg each) and these rods are great for colour match and weather resisting.
COR-TEN® is a trademarked name owned by U.S. Steel. COR-TEN® steel is becoming more popular by roll formed product end-users. Its unique look and naturally oxidizing finish make it especially desirable for many architectural projects.
Weathering steel, often referred to by the genericized trademark COR-TEN steel and sometimes written without the hyphen as corten steel, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance after several years exposure to weather.

Jul 02, 2008· Corten "A" is a weathering steel that has a higher than normal copper content, this forms a rust preventative oxide on the surface that prevents "weathering" you can get a specific wire for corten but the general concensus is to treat it like s355 type material.
Cor-Ten or corten steel is a type of steel that resists corrosion. Unlike regular steel, corten develops a light rust layer that once formed, will protect the underlying material and prevent further corrosion.
